  • What About Your Honeymoon

    2010 - 01.08

The wedding is the starting point. There’s plenty of excitement planning the honeymoon as well, from choosing a travel adventure to deciding on what to bring along on the journey. And for many, planning this great “escape” is just as important as planning the actual wedding. Once you decide where you would like to go, there a few things you have to take into consideration to make the experience perfect.

First, you must decide on a budget. When you have an unlimited budget, the sky is the limit! If you’re like most engaged couples, you are already way over your budget. Establishing a budget is the framework for everything you do.

You’ll also need to decide whether you want an all-inclusive, one-price-does-it-all, leave-the-wallet-at-home type of trip, or a more do-it-yourself package with car rental, lodging, food, and activities on an a la carte basis. Resorts and cruises are all inclusive choices for a destination wedding.

Of course, honeymoon budgeting takes on a new meaning if you decide to do a “destination wedding”. A destination honeymoon is a great option for couples which will allow them to save on the cost of a traditional wedding and honeymoon expenses. Destination weddings are a very good choice for a second marriage. Not all countries have the same marriage laws, so it pays to do your homework to avoid any unforeseen surprises. Check with the Department of State, in making any arrangements.

The next step is to book the trip and of course pay for it. Usually, the earlier you book you wedding, the better the price will be, and will often include the arifare. Choosing a package generally will offer significant saving on airfare, hotels, and car rentals because retailers buy these items at a discount.

You may also want to consider using a honeymoon gift registry to help with expenses. If your travel agent does not offer this service, do an internet search for honeymoon gift registry. A good place to start is at Budget Honeymoons. Honeymoon registries allow guests, friends and family to contribute toward specific elements of your honeymoon, like shore excursions, parasailing, spa services, and tours.
